Fequently Asked Questions
Why choose cremation and scattering of ashes over traditional burial?

There are several reasons more and more people choose cremation. One very important reason is cost. A traditional funeral and burial might start at $5,000, and can easily run $10,000 or higher, while cremation and scattering can be done for about $900. Another reason is that burial in the ground is environmentally unsustainable. Cemeteries are already overcrowded, and demand for burial space is increasing rapidly. Also, many prople prefer the freedom of rejoining the Earth over eternal confinement in the ground. Finally, many wish to spare their surviving loved ones the dreariness and despair of a traditional funeral and burial, and find scattering free over the Earth a more positive and uplifting act.

What are the advantages of scattering the ashes from the air?

Apart from convenience and economy, most people choose air dispersal for its unbounded possibilities. When scattered from an airplane, some portions of the ashes return directly to the ocean, the cradle of life. Others are carried on the winds to destinations unknown. Still others might be carried aloft in a billowing cloud to fall as rain.

Does my religion permit cremation?

Most of the world's religions accept cremation. Muslims and Orthodox Jews, however, do not.

Is this safe for the environment?

Yes. The remains are returned to the Earth without polluting. On missions where a package is required, we use a completely biodegradable plant fiber which dissolves upon contact with water.

Where do you scatter the ashes?

The ashes can be scattered to the winds at high altitude, spread over the deep water of the Atlantic off Florida's east coast, cast into the Gulf Stream which crosses the sea from Florida to Ireland, or settled onto the calm, warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Can I come along?

Due to insurance requirements, we offer only unaccompanied scattering of ashes.

What does it cost?

Simple unaccompanied scattering over Florida's coastal waters is $450. There are special discounts for veterans of the US Armed Forces.

How long does it take?

We will scatter the ashes within one week of receipt, weather permitting.

How will I know the ashes have been scattered?

You will receive a notarized certificate giving the date, time, aircraft flown, latitude/longitude of release, and the pilot's witnessing signature.

It is a great relief to finally set you free.
